There are a lot of new graphic arts presses on the market. What should you be looking at?

This year at drupa 2024, we saw many new B2 and B1 cutsheet presses. Here are the seven that were there. Missing (not at drupa) are the Canon B2 and Agfa Speedset.

Our latest report shows 46 presses from 18 different OEMs installed at 39 companies.

Our installation roundup this month includes a bonus look back at 101 inkjet buyers and their selected presses in 2021 in addition to coverage of December 21.

We learned of 11 new inkjet installs: 2 in the US, 6 in Europe, 1 each in China and the UAE. Most activity was in Labels & Packaging with 2 corrugated installs and 3 label presses.

Inkjet is allowing printers to do more things with a single press, and fewer companies associated with any particular application segment are staying in their own lane.

Managers cringe when they learn their inkjet technology vendors are consolidating. Whether a merger, acquisition, or partnership, they fear monopolistic practices that increase costs, reduce choice, and constrain innovation will result. But should they worry?
