At the 2018 Inkjet Summit, Mary Schilling delivered a keynote presentation on advances in inkjet technology and fluids that are are enabling production on a wider variety of paper grades and finishes as well as current market challenges for inkjet formulated papers. She asks:
- How does this impact the evaluation process for papers?
- What new variables must be considered when evaluating paper for particular application segments?
- Why is it so hard to bring new papers to market?
The session discussed the tradeoffs between inkjet formulated and offset grades and the ink and fluids that create compatibility. Mary offered work-arounds for scarcity in the market and tips on finding and evaluating papers.
One key take away was the message that the companies using production inkjet and shopping for inkjet devices have pushed the mills and OEMs to get creative on enabling more paper options to meet demand in current and emerging markets. Mary’s message? Keep pushing and push harder!
