Inkjet deals at drupa: a Free Roundup

By Elizabeth Gooding / Published:

There were multiple new inkjet press launches at drupa this year, as well as presses that were previously announced but shown for the first time in Dusseldorf (See Figure 1).  Naturally, this drove a high level of inkjet sales at the event.

The Inkjet Installation Roundup is one of the premium content services offered by Inkjet Insight. The June edition was the largest single month report driven, in-part, by the activity surrounding the 2024 drupa exhibition. While we reported on 53 installations at 51 different printing organizations, we noted that there were deals for 14 press deals that we did not include in the count due to the forward looking nature of the announcements. In this article we will talk about those deals as well as others that were included in the June roundup.

drupa Deals Delivered

There were 10 major orders made or announced at drupa where the presses have been delivered or scheduled for delivery at a specific date and location. Here is a synopsis of the drupa deals we covered in the June Roundup (alphabetically by purchasing company.)

  • Trade printer CMYK Hub signed for two Canon varioPRINT iX3200 presses for their Australian operations to focus on display graphics.
  • The German commercial printer Color+ GmbH bought the Konica Minolta AccurioJet KM1-e B2 UV press right off the show floor.
  • Detmer Delo Verpackung purchased the Fujifilm FP790 flexible packaging press for their  Oldenburg Germany operations.
  • Hungarian direct mail and transaction printing company, EPDB Yomtatasi Központ Zrt. acquired a Truepress Jet 520HDAD 2-up roll-fed press from Screen.
  • Mclays / MiPost, commercial printers out of Cardiff announced that they are the first in the UK to acquire the new ProStream 2133 launched at drupa.
  • Offset 5020 Druckerei und Verlags GmbH, a German printer focused on the publishing market, purchased a Canon varioPRINT iX3200 configured for book printing.
  • Kyocera-Nixka announced Photoweb, a French photo lab, as the first customer for the Belhara narrow-web photo printing solution launched at drupa.
  • Scottish online printer, Tradeprint (a subsidiary of Cimpress) bought a Canon varioPRINT iX3200.
  • The US Vistaprint division of online printer group, Cimpress picked up a Ricoh Pro VC 80000.
  • Dutch commercial printer, Zalsman BV took home the Ricoh Pro CV80000 from the drupa show floor.

There were also some large orders or Letters of Intent (LOI) to purchase presses or deals that didn’t have enough details to warrant inclusion in the June report.

Other Important Announcements

Here are companies to watch as they move forward with major inkjet investments. We will report the actual installations as they happen.

  • The first production Fujifilm HS6000 will be built-to-order for installation in the new Notinghamshire mega-facility of Linney in England. The installation is planned for early 2025 and includes top feeding and stacking to focus on the sign and display market. The press, developed in partnership with Barberán, is one of the most expensive inkjet presses on the market with a list price of approximately $5.5 million making this a big deal indeed.
  • Cimpress announced plans at drupa to install four Landa S11P presses this year but did not indicate which of their (many) operations would receive them. Cimpress brands include druck.at, drukwerkdeal.nl, easyflyer, exaprint, pens.com, packstyle, pixartprinting, printi, tradeprint.co.uk, vista, wirmachendruck.de and sometimes installations are announced multiple times under the parent and subsidiary company. Looking forward to seeing where these end up (and when). Like the HS6000, the Landa presses live at the top end of the price scale so this is a big win.
  • All4Labels made a big, multi-press deal with HP at drupa, but most of these are HP Indigos. They did announce purchase of an enhanced version of the HP PageWide Advantage 2200 for one of their European operations. We will try to find where it is going report back in the next installation roundup.
  • RR Donnelly also announced a major purchase agreement with HP that includes a mix of Indigo and PageWide inkjet presses. We know there will be 15 or more presses in total but not the mix or the location. Stay tuned.
  • Kodak also announced a multi-press deal with an unnamed customer that signed a letter of intent for five Prosper 520 Ultra HD over the next 3 years. Who are you unnamed customer? Where will these lovely presses live? Let us know so we can add you to the Roundup.
  • Another LOI was announced for Samson Druck in Austria to receive one of the first Heidelberg Jetfire 50 (based on Canon varioPRINT iX3200). The first one went to Schellenberg Group in Switzerland.
  • Not a purchase, not an LOI, but announcement by Wirtz Druck (MailingLiebe) in Germany of its intention to install an additional Landa press, the Landa S11P.

And, as in all our reports, we must stress that these listings reflect the inkjet sales that were publicly announced. There were no doubt many more deals quietly concluded at drupa or begun at drupa to be announced later. We look forward to seeking them out and reporting back to our readers.
