Sorry Gang – I was down with the flu-that-shall-not-be-named in April so we are getting the April and May Installation Roundup all together. Don’t think of it as late – think of it as double the concentrated inkjet data fun. It was a busy and interesting couple of months with a number of companies acquiring, second, third or even fourth presses. A couple of hybrids in the mix too. Let’s break it down.
There are 15 companies on the report with 20 new inkjet systems installed. Of those, three were in the EU, one in the UK and the rest (16) were in the US. A couple of points of interest:
- Frisco Independent School district replaced 11 toner presses with two B3 inkjet presses
- Richmark Label purchased their second round of two inkjet presses after only one year
- Two companies, Grupo La Plana and Inland Packaging installed hybrid B1 format presses. The first from Kento and the latter from ABG and Durst.
- Out of the 15 companies covered, four companies purchased more than one press. Five more were adding additional presses to their existing base.
See the full list below
From an application perspective, production inkjet in the document space is still the main overall segment with four companies producing direct mail, four in books, and two each in commercial print and transaction print (some companies in multiple segments.) The packaging segment was also hopping with three corrugated packaging systems and four installations targeting labels. We also had two signage related installations, one at an In-Plant operation (with Konica Minolta presses) and another focused on Retail Point of Sale signage using a Landa S10P.
From a format standpoint, we had a tie between sheet-fed and web-fed presses this time. The big surprise was FIVE B1 format presses. Also three B3 and two B2 format presses. Among the web-fed purchases there were five 2-up roll, one 4-up wide roll and four roll-pack systems.
Formats included narrow web up to wide web, B1 and B2 sheet (no B3 this time) plus pallets and “direct-to-stuff” formats (pallets and can grippers.) This is a big change from last month where almost all of the installs were continuous. Screen had the only report of multiple presses.
Lots of different OEMs in play this month also. We had five installations from HP, two each from Bobst, Canon, Konica Minolta, Landa and Xerox plus one each from ABG-Durst, EFI, Keno, Screen and Xeikon.
Our picture for this edition was supplied by Quad Graphics, proud owners of a Landa S10P. You sure can stand a lot of people in front of that press!
And now the list!
