Cary Sherburne, textile printing expert and senior editor at WhatTheyThink talks to Elizabeth Gooding about the tremendous opportunities awaiting commercial printers in the inkjet textile segment. Currently about 5% of worldwide textile volume is printed digitally, but Sherburne says that the market is already growing at a double digit rate and set to explode. The cross-over between screen printing and inkjet printing is shifting at the high-end of the market and entry costs using heat-transfer dye sublimation inkjet at the low-end are nominal. Designers want cost-effective samples and short-run production of unique apparel, decor and other textile products from local producers with fast turnaround. Print providers are responding. Will you be one of them?
