Another great segment in our print head strategy series. Today we hear from Eric Wiesner of HP on the factors that drove HP to select thermal print heads for their production devices in the graphics market. Note that HP uses piezo heads in their flatbed UV devices. Some benefits of thermal print head technology cited by Wiesner include a “cleaner” process, nozzle redundancy and high nozzle density.
Previously we posted strategy videos from Mike Herold of Ricoh and Crit Driezen of Canon who spoke about the benefits of piezo technology. Regarding Canon, it should be noted that the much anticipated Voyager device developed in Tokyo will use thermal print head and intermediate drum transfer technology rather than piezo. For an independent analyst perspective, we have also heard from Marco Boer for his views on some of the pros and cons of continuous, piezo and thermal print head options. We will keep the competitive OEM perspectives coming. Stay tuned.
