April 2023 Inkjet Installation Roundup

By Elizabeth Gooding / Published:

We have 19, quite varied, press installs at 19 companies to talk about for April. Companies investing in inkjet include 9 in the United States, 7 in the European Union and 1 each in Australia, South Africa and the United Kingdom. We also saw quite a lot of variation across OEMs this time with 3 each for Canon and HP, 2 each for Koenig & Bauer, Kyocera and Screen, plus on each for Durst, EFI, Fujifilm, HanGlobal, Konica Minolta, Ricoh and Xerox.

A few points of interest before we dig in:

  • Amazon invested in a complete book automation solution developed with the Colorstream 8160 and the Hunkeler Starbook Plowfolder Book solution with Book Sorting Module. This configuration was demonstrated at Hunkeler innovationdays.
  • Grafica Veneta installed the the first Koenig & Bauer Rotajet in Italy  and their Lake Book Group in the US has also installed a Rotajet.
  • Books Factory/Print Group installed the first HanGlobal Kirin 660 mono that we are aware of in the EU. Check out previous coverage from Oleg Litvinov on HanGlobal’s entry into Europe.
  • We also noted that the 2 Kyocera installations shown on the list below were sold by NetPrint Solutions and Triumph-Adler respectively. The latter is now owned by Kyocera.

After many months of sheet-fed installs leading continuous, we flip-flopped for the last couple of months and roll has just edged out sheet-fed with 10 roll installations versus 9 sheet. As usual, the majority of sheet installations are B3 (5) with a couple of B2 and B1 presses also.

What are they doing?

As in previous months we see a lot of companies using their inkjet presses for more than one thing. Commercial printing was the most commonly cited use (8) but also many producing books (hello Amazon) and direct marketing mail. We are consistently seeing a handful of packaging related investments every month and April was no exception with 2 packaging and 2 label installs. We also continue to see cross over of commercial and packaging presses in POP display graphics and suspect that this is an under-reported segment.

Here’s the April table with helpful links to the company website. You can find more details on individual press models on the Inkjet Device Finder.
