Device Independence

A term used to refer to any computer application or software package that can generate output that is perceptibly identical regardless of the characteristics or brand of the output device. A common example are files saved in thePostScript page description language, which can be output identically regardless of the computer platform or output device. Color that can be reproduced identically from device to device is known as device-independent color. Also known as hardware independence.
